Chapter 18 – The Flag
1 - يل: الطالقاين، عن احلسن بن علي العدوي، عن احلسني بن أمحد الطفاوي، عن قيس بن الربيع، عن سعد اخلفاف، عن عطية العويف، عن خمدوج ابن زيد الذهلي أن رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله آخى بني املسلمني مث قال: يا علي أنت أخي وأنتمين مبنزلة هارون من مو سى غري أنه النيب بعدي،
Al Talaqany, from Al Hassan Bin Ali Al Adwy, from Al Husayn Bin Ahmad Al Tafawy, from Qays Bin Al Rabie, from S’’ad Al Khafaf, from Atiya Al Awfy, from Makhdouj Ibn Zayd Al Zahly,
‘Rasool-Allah established brotherhood between the Muslims, then said: ‘O Ali! You are my brother, and you are from me at the status of Haroun from Musa apart from that there is no Prophet after me.
أما علمت يا علي أنه أول من يدعى به يوم القيامة يدعي يب، فأقوم عن ميني العرش فأكسي حلة خضراء من حلل اجلنة،
But, do you know, O Ali, that the first one to be called on the Day of Judgment would be me, so I would stand on the right of the Throne and be clothed with green garments from the garments of the Paradise.
مث يدعي بأبينا إبراهيم عليه السالم فيقوم عن ميني العرش يف ظله فيكسي حلة خضراء من حلل اجلنة، مث يدعي بالنبيني. بعضهم على أثر بعض، فيقومون مساطني عن ميني العرش يف ظله ويكسون حلال خضرا من حلل اجلنة،
Then they would call our father Ibrahim, and he would stand on the right of the Throne in its shade, and would be clothed with green garments from the garments of the Paradise. Then they will call the Prophets, upon the footsteps of each other, and they would be standing in rows on the right of the Throne in its shade, and would be clothed with green garments from the garments of the Paradise.
أال وإين اخربك يا علي إن اميت أول االمم حياسبون يو م القيامة، مث ابشرك يا علي إن أول من يدعي يوم القيامة يدعي بك، هذا القرابتك مين ومنزلتك عندي، فيدفع إليك لوائي وهو لواء احلمد فتسري به بني السماطني، وإن آدم ومجيع من خلق اهلل يستظلونبظل لوائي يوم القيامة
Indeed! And I hereby inform you, O Ali, that my community would be the first of the communities to be Reckoned with on the Day of Judgment. Then I give you glad tidings, O Ali, that the first one to be called with me on the Day of Judgment would be you. This is (due to) your nearness from me and your status in my presence, and I would hand over my flag to you, and it is the flag of Praise, and you will travel with it between the rows, and that Adam and the entirety from the creatures of Allah would be taking shade by the shade of my flag on the Day of Judgment.
وطوله مسرية ألف سنة، سنانه ياقوتة محراء، قصبه فضة بيضاء. زجه درة خضراء، له ثالث ذوائب من نور: ذؤابة يف املشرق، وذؤابة يف املغرب، وذؤابة يف وسط الدنيا،
And its length is of a travel distance of a thousand years. Its lance would be of red ruby, its cane of white silver, its glow being of green gems. For it are three tresses — a tress in the east, and a tress in the west, and a tress in the middle of the world.
مكتوب عليها ثالثة أسطر، االول: بسم اهلل الرمحن الرحيم. واآلخر: احلمدهلل رب العاملني. والثالث: الإله إال اهلل حممد رسول اهلل. طول كل سطر مسرية ألف سنة، وعرضه مسرية ألف سنة،
Written upon it are three lines. The first, ‘In the Name of Allah the Beneficent, the Merciful; and the other, ‘The Praise is for Allah Lord of the worlds; and the third, ‘There is no god except Allah, Muhammad is a Rasool of Allah. The length of each line is of a travel distance of a thousand years, and its width a travel distance of a thousand years.
فتسري باللواء واحلسن عن ميينك واحلسني عن يسارك حىت تقف بيين و بني إبراهيم يف ظل العرش، فتكسى حلة خضراء من حلل اجلنة،
So, you will travel with the flag, and Al-Hassan would be on your right, and Al-Husayn on your left, until you pause between me and Ibrahim in the shade of the Throne, and you will be clothed with green garments from the garments of the Paradise.
مث ينادي مناد من عند العرش: نعم االب أبوك إبراهيم، ونعم االخ أخوك علي. أال وإين ابشر ك يا علي إنك تدعى إذا دعيت،وتكسى إذا كسيت، وحتيا إذاحييت.
Then a Caller would Call out from the Throne: “The best of the fathers is your father Ibrahim, and the best of the brothers is your brother Ali!” Indeed, and I give you glad tidings, O Ali! You will be called when you are called, and clothed when you are clothed, and you will live when you are revived’’.
2 - ىل: علي بن أمحد بن عبد اهلل بن أمحد بن أيب عبد اهلل الربقي، عن أبيه، عن جده أمحد بن أيب عبد اهلل، عن أبيه حممد بن خالد، عن خلف بن محاد، عن أيب احلسن العبدى، عن االعمش، عن عباية بن ربعي، عن عبد اهلل بن عباس قال: قال رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله: أتاين جربئيل عليه السالم وهو فرح مستبشر، فقلت له: حبييب جربئيل مع ما أنت فيه من الفرح ! ما منزلة أخي وابن عمي علي بن أيب طالب عند ربه ؟
Ali Bin Ahmad Bin Abdullah Bin Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah Al Baqy, from his father, from his grandfather Ahmad Bin Abu Abdullah, from his father Muhammad Bin Khalid, from Khalaf Bin Hamad, from Abu Al Hassan Al Abdy, from Al Amsh, from Abayah Bin Rabie, from Abdullah Bin Abbas who said,
‘Rasool-Allah said: ‘Jibraeel came to me and he was happy, joyful. I said to him: ‘My beloved Jibraeel! What are you happy with, what status there is of my brother and cousin Ali Bin Abu Talib in the Presence of his Lord?’
فقال جربئيل: يا حممد والذي بعثك بالنبوة واصطفاك بالرسالة ما هبطت يف وقيت هذا إال هلذا، يا حممد العلي - االعلى يقرء عليك السالم ويقول: حممد نيب رمحيت، وعلي مقيم حجيت، ال اعذب من وااله وإن عصاين، وال أرحم من عاداه وإن أطاعين.
Jibraeel said: ‘O Muhammad! By the One Who Sent you with the Message! I did not descend in this time except for this. O Muhammad! The Most Exalted Conveys the greetings upon you and is saying: “Muhammad is My Prophet of My Mercy, and Ali is the establisher of My Arguments. I will not Punish the one who loves him and even if he disobeys Me, and I will not Mercy one who is inimical to him and even if he obeys Me!”
قال ابن عباس: مث قال رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله: إذا كان يوم القيامة أتاين جربئيل وبيده لواء احلمد وهو سبعون شقة، الشقة منه أوسع من الشمس والقمر فيدفعه إيل فاخذه وأدفعه إىل علي بن أيب طالب.
Ibn Abbas said, ‘Then Rasool-Allah said: ‘When it will be the Day of Judgment, Jibraeel will come to me and in his hand would be the flag of Praise and it is of seventy tresses (layers), and the tress from it being vaster than the sun and the moon, and he will hand it over to me, so I will take it to Ali Bin Abu Talib.
فقال رجل: يارسول اهلل وكيف يطيق علي على محل اللواء وقد ذكرت أنه سبعون شقة، الشقة منه أوسع من الشمس والقمر ؟ !
A man said, ‘O Rasool-Allah! And how will Ali be able to endure upon carry the flag, and you have mentioned that it has seventy tresses, the tress from it being vaster than the sun and the moon?’
فغضب رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله مث قال: يارجل إنه إذا كان يوم القيامة أعطى اهلل عليا من القوة مثل قوة جربئيل، ومن اجلمال مثل مجال يوسف، ومن احللم مثل حلم رضوان، ومن الصوت ما يداين صوت داود، ولوال أن داود خطيب يف اجلنان العطي علي مثل صوته،
Rasool-Allah got angered, then said: ‘O man! When it will be the Day of Judgment, Allah would Give Ali from the strength like the strength of Jibraeel, and from the beauty like the beauty of Yusuf, and from the forbearance like the forbearance of Rizwaan, and from the voice what resembles the voice of Dawood, and had it not been for Dawood being an addressor in the Gardens, Ali would have been Given the like of his voice.
وإن عليا أول من يشرب من السلسبيل والزجنبيل، وإن لعلي وشيعته من اهلل عزوجل مقاما يغبطه به االولون واآلخرون.
3 - ل: أيب، عن احلسن بن أمحد االسكيف القمي بالري يرفع احلديث إىل حممد بن علي، عن حممد بن حسان القوميسي، عن علي بن حممد االنصاري، عن عبيداهلل ابن عبد الكرمي الرازي، عن عبد احلميد احلماين، عن ليث، عن جماهد، عن ابن عباس قال: قال رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله: أتاين جربئيل وهو فرح مستبشر، فقلت: حبييب جربئيل مع ما أنت فيه من الفرح ! ما منزلة أخي وابن عمي علي بن أيب طالب عند ربه ؟
My father, from Al Hassan Bin Ahmad Al Askeyf Al Qummy at Al Rayy, raising the Hadeeth to Muhammad Bin Ali, from Muhammad Bin Hasaam Al Qowmisy, from Ali Bin Muhammad Al Ansary, from Ubeydullah Ibn Abdul Kareem Al Razy, from Abdul Hameed Al Hamany, from Lays, from Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas who said,
‘Rasool-Allah said: ‘Jibraeel came to me and he was happy, joyful, so I said: ‘I said to him: ‘My beloved Jibraeel! What are you happy with, what status there is of my brother and cousin Ali Bin Abu Talib in the Presence of hisLord?’
فقال: والذي بعثك بالنبوة واصطفاك بالرسالة ما هبطت يف وقيت هذا إال هلذا، يا حممد اهلل )العلي خ ل( االعلى يقرء عليكما السالم وقال: حممد نيب رمحيت، وعلي مقيم حجيت، ال اعذب من وااله وإن عصاين، وال أرحم من عاداه وإن أطاعين.
Jibraeel said: ‘O Muhammad! By the One Who Sent you with the Message! I did not descend in this time except for this. O Muhammad! The Most Exalted Conveys the greetings upon you both, and is saying: “Muhammad is My Prophet of My Mercy, and Ali is the establisher of My Arguments. I will not Punish the one who loves him and even if he disobeys Me, and I will not Mercy one who is inimical to him and even if he obeys Me!”
قال: مث قال رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله: إذا كان يوم القيامة يأتيين جربئيل ومعه لواء احلمد وهو سبعون شقة، الشقة منه أوسع من الشمس والقمر، وأنا على كرسي من كراسي الرضوان، فوق منرب من منابر القدس، فاخذه وأدفعه إىل علي بن أيب طالب،
He (the narrator) said, ‘Then Rasool-Allah said: ‘When it will be the Day of Judgment, Jibraeel will come to me and with him would be the flag of Praise, and it is of seventy tresses, the tress from it being vaster than the sun and the moon, and I will be upon a chair from the chairs of Al-Rizwaan, above a pulpit from the pulpits of the Holiness. So, I will take it and hand it over to Ali Bin Abu Talib’.
فوثب عمربن اخلطاب فقال: يا رسول اهلل وكيف يطيق على محل اللواء وقد ذكرت أنه سبعون شقة، الشقة منه أوسع من الشمس والقمر ؟ !
Umar Bin Al-Khattab leapt and said, ‘O Rasool-Allah! And how would Ali be able to endure carrying the flag, and you have mentioned that it is of seventy tresses, the tress from it being vaster than the sun and the moon?’
فقال النيب صلى اهلل عليه وآله: إذا كان يوم القيامة يعطي اهلل عليا من القوة مثل قوة جربئيل، ومن النور مثل نور آدم، ومن احللم مثل حلم رضوان، ومن اجلمال مثل مجال يوسف، ومن الصوت ما يداين صوت دواد ولوال أن يكون داود خطيبا لعلي يف اجلنان العطي مثل صوته، وإن عليا أول من يشرب من السلسبيل و الزجنبيل،
The Prophet said: ‘When it will be the Day of Judgment, Allah would Give Ali from the strength like the strength of Jibraeel, and from ‘النور’ the Light like the Light of Adam, and from the forbearance like the forbearance of Rizwaan, and from the beauty like the beauty of Yusuf, and from the voice what resembles Dawood, Ali would have been Given the like of his voice, and that Ali would be the first one to drink from Al-Salsabeel and Al-Zanjabeel (springs of Paradise).
ال جتوز لعلي قدم على الصراط إال وثبتت له مكاهنا أخرى، وإن لعلي وشيعته من اهلل مكانا يغبطه به االولون واآلخرون.
4 - ن: أيب، عن احلسن بن أمحد املالكي، عن أبيه، عن إبراهيم بن أيب حممود، عن الرضا، عن آبائه، عن أمري املؤمنني عليهم السالم قال: قال رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله: يا علي أنت أول من يدخل اجلنة وبيدك لوائي وهو لواء احلمد، وهو سبعون شقة، الشقة منه أوسع من الشمس القمر.
My father, from Al Hassan Bin Ahmad Al Maliky, from his father, from Ibrahim Bin Abu Mahmoud,
‘From Al-Reza, from his forefathers from Amir Al-Momineen having said: ‘Rasool-Allah said: ‘O Ali! You would be the first one to enter the Paradise, and in your hand would be a flag, and it is the flag of Praise, and it is of seventy tresses, the tress from it being vaster than the sun and the moon’’.
5 - ن: باالسانيد الثالثة عن الرضا، عن آبائه عليهم السالم قال: قال رسول اهلل صلى اهلل عليه وآله: يا علي إين سألت ريب فيك مخس خصال فأعطانيها: أحدها أن جيعلك حامل لوائي وهو لواء اهلل االكرب مكتوب عليه: املفلحون هم الفائزون باجلنة.
By the three chains,
‘From Al-Reza, from his forefathers having said: ‘Rasool-Allah said: ‘O Ali! I asked my Lord five qualities regarding you, and He Granted these to me — One of these is that He should Make you to be the bearer of my flag, and it is a flag of Allah the Greatest. Upon it is inscribed: “The winners, they are the successful ones with the Paradise”’.
